A DECISIVE DISCOVERY 

Who would have thought that the most innovative company in the nail care industry would get its start with a chance discovery in a dentist's office? That's where Dr. Stuart Nordstrom, a practicing dentist, got the idea for a new nail enhancement product when a patient noticed that the material used to prepare temporary caps smelled like the material used to sculpt porcelain nails.  

Dr. Nordstrom turned that brief moment of inspiration into SolarNail Liquid, the industry's first-ever monomer formulation for greater length, strength and flexibility in non-yellowing nails. SolarNail was a transformative innovation, changing the future of the Nordstrom family and the entire nail care industry. This innovation, however, was not a marvel. Nordstrom built on its success with a foundation of creativity, hard work and smart chemistry.  

Through the 1980s alone, the company doubled its revenues each year. Recognizing that long-term leadership would require more than entrepreneurship and sheer panache, the company became a sophisticated marketer and a truly disciplined business, never losing sight of the individual connection to the professional who lives at the heart of the industry.

In August 2013, it was announced that Revlon had agreed to purchase the Colomer Group to expand its portfolio of professional brands, including CND. The acquisition was finalized in October 2013, officially making CND an extension of one of the strongest consumer brand franchises in the world.
